Artist’s Bio

Brigitte Coovert has lived in Florida most of her life and currently resides in Pinellas county. When not in her studio space, she can be wandering around local museums, spending time with her family, and fawning over her cats.

Artist’s Statement

My work explores the lingering impact that illness and trauma have on the mind and body of the individual. Pulling heavily from my own diagnosis with an autoimmune disease in 2017, and using intentionally unpredictable materials, the mixed media pieces explore loss of control and the physical manifestations of illness, as well as a contrast between destruction and the beauty of human resilience.
